ART NOUVEAU

OF BEAUTIFUL TILES, CABBAGE HEADS AND HOUSES WITHOUT EYEBROWS - AN ENTERTAINING CITY TOUR ON THE TRAIL OF ART NOUVEAU IN VIENNA

Hardly anyone has shaped Art Nouveau in Vienna like Otto Wagner. We start at his famous city train pavilions and are amazed at his network and how much more extensive and visionary his plans for Vienna were! The roof of the Secession building shines golden over Karlsplatz, which the Viennese like to call "cabbage head". But what is the history and architecture of the building actually all about?

Off into the green, to the Burggarten park and the Palm House. Here it becomes clear that Art Nouveau was not only about different design, but also about new materials. The Loos House on Michaelerplatz was a real scandal. We find out why the emperor was happy to have other exits from his Hofburg Palace and what was revolutionary about the house in the best sense of the word at this magnificent square. We continue into the first district and discover surprising traces of Art Nouveau on the exclusive Graben avenue. A highlight awaits us at the end: the Anchor Clock on Hoher Markt Square. But what does this work of art have to do with subtle advertising?
