PUBLIC TOUR CHRISTMAS
MAIL FROM THE CHRIST CHILD, NIKOLO ON THE ROAD AND A GIFT FROM THE EMPEROR - ON THE TRAIL OF CHRISTMAS THROUGH VIENNA
Christmas decorations and Christmas markets, the smell of punch and gingerbread - Vienna is in the Christmas spirit! Time to follow in the footsteps of the Christ Child, St. Nicholas and Krampus through the festively illuminated city. Can you write to the Christ Child? Of course, there is a special post office, as we find out right at the start of our tour! Christmas without sweets? Unthinkable! But when did sugar, which is so important for stollen, cookies and the like, actually come into existence?
At Hoher Markt, we unexpectedly come across the Holy Family and the first Christmas tree in Vienna. Silent night? Not at St. Stephen's Cathedral! But we still have the musical Christmas classic in our ears and hear more about its history at Neuer Markt.
Christ Child or Santa Claus, who actually brings the presents? Answers can be found on the way to the Hofburg. What do Empress Elisabeth and Emperor Franz-Joseph have to do with Christmas and presents? By the time we reach the Christmas village on Maria-Theresien-Platz, we'll know all about it. Christmas can come!
