SPOOKY VIENNA

OF WITCHES, GHOSTS AND VAMPIRES - A SPOOKY CITY TOUR THROUGH THE HISTORY OF VIENNA

Was that a shadow or just a flicker of lantern light? Is there fog drifting through the alley or was there a figure there a moment ago? No more imperial and kitsch, when night falls Vienna reveals its spooky side!

We summon up all our courage and embark on a special kind of city tour: it's all about witches, ghosts, curses, the undead and torture! It all starts with Gerard van Swieten, a famous vampire hunter - or what Hollywood made of him. Can the legends surrounding bloodsuckers really be explained scientifically? Goosebumps around the Hofburg Palace too. It is said that the Habsburgs had to fight two curses during their long reign. Empress Elisabeth even took part in dubious seances and necromancy. And who is the "White Lady" who is said to be up to mischief in the winding corridors of the palace? We continue through the dark alleyways of the old town. We shudder as we hear about the atrocities of the Blood Countess, learn how cruel executions and torture were in earlier times and wonder in horror whether Vienna's only witch trial was actually about sorcery. St. Stephen's Cathedral is also said to be haunted - after this tour, we are not at all surprised!

Tour duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
Number of participants: Up to 25 people
