KLIMT AND BELVEDERE

BAROQUE POMP AND PAINTING IN GOLD - A TOUR OF KLIMT'S KISS AND THE HIGHLIGHTS AT THE BELVEDERE MUSEUM

The setting for the Belvedere Collection is truly impressive - Prince Eugene's baroque palace is off the scale. We admire the magnificently decorated façade and the palace's well-tended gardens. A first highlight even before we enter the collection: the view from the palace over Vienna's city center!

Austrian history surrounds us in the palace, where Austria's independence after the Second World War was sealed in 1955 with the State Treaty in the breathtaking Marble Hall. With this view out of the window, we can well understand the choice of location! The Belvedere Museum's extensive collection offers a great overview of Austrian painting from the Middle Ages to the present day. However, our focus is on the artist who shaped Vienna around 1900 like no other: Gustav Klimt! His Kiss is a symphony in gold, probably the most beautiful declaration of love in art history and the undisputed highlight of the collection. But we are also enthusiastic about other works by Klimt, the fascinating portraits of women or his warm summer landscapes. Selected paintings from the Biedermeier period, which was important in Austria, and the Expressionism that followed Klimt round off this exciting tour of the Belvedere Museum.

Tour duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
